Response to UUA un-endorsement

I drew this cartoon in response to the letter by the UUA Board of Trustees endorsing my opponent and summarizing my campaign, not as one promoting democracy and freedom of expression, but one that is "in direct opposition to the UUA Administration and Board’s approach to anti-racism and anti-oppression."

Sad but true. Boards of trustees should not endorse candidates for trustee when there is more than one person running. No organization I know of -- except the present UUA Board -- does this.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

One of my mottoes is “Democracy – use it or lose it!” This is why I am running for the UUA Board of Trustees.

I believe that the UUA has not done what it should to promote democracy within the organization, and that that our liberal church is losing its way, becoming increasingly authoritarian and dogmatic, while the UUA Board becomes more insular and remote from everyday UUs.

If elected to the UUA Board, I will pay special attention to our first, fourth, and fifth principles: the inherent worth and dignity of every person; a free and responsible search for truth and meaning; and the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process.

While there are problems aplenty in the world, our heritage of free thought and our foundation of liberal religious principles are the best and most precious tools for addressing those problems.
